Carried Away

He who has an ear, let him hear.

If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed.

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints. (Revelation 13:9-10 NIV)

To understand prophecy, we must know Bible history. When the Lord’s chosen people sinned by committing idolatry they sealed their fate.  In Deuteronomy 28, they heard God pledge what would happen: “The LORD will cause you to be defeated by your enemies” (28:25). “The LORD will drive you and the king you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your fathers” (28:36). “The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth,… a nation whose language you will not understand, a fierce looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young” (28:49-50). “Then the LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other” (28:64).

All the nations will ask: “Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?” And the answer will be: “It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers,… Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book. In furious anger and in great wrath the LORD uprooted them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now” (29:24-25, 27-28).

If the Lord called Assyria to capture then scatter ten of Israel’s tribes, and if He sent Babylon to carry away Judah, then, centuries later, used Roman soldiers as his instruments to banish Jews from their land, then what will happen to the idolatrous West? If we escape the sword, we will be uprooted and thrust into another land. This is basic prophecy regarding the last days, supported by the word of the prophets.

Someone has to alert God’s people to what’s coming. If the Lord is sending the destroyer, do not think your guns will save. To live, submit to the Father’s will.

Knowing from Scripture that we’ll be carried away, what manner of Christian ought we to be? We should be counted among the wise: “Those who are wise will instruct many, though for a time they will fall by the sword or be burned or captured or plundered… Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time” (Daniel 11:33, 35).
