” In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying: ‘If any man thirst, let him come unto ME and drink. He that believeth on ME, as the scripture hath said. out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.’ (John 7:37-38, KJV).

Last night at sunset concluded the High Holy Days of the Fall for Israel. Today (Simchat Torah)  is a day of celebration as Israel recognizes the joy of receiving the Torah. (first 5 books of the Old Testament). The Feast of Tabernacles has great future significance as it is a look at the time when Jesus will rule on earth. (The Millennium). It is a time of hope, joy and peace. So, is there even more significance to the Last Great Day?

The Gospel of John showed that Jesus taught in the midst of the Temple during the Feast of Tabernacles. On the Last Great Day (8th Day), He cried out and offered eternal life for whomever thirsts for eternal life. He promised the Holy Spirit as a seal. (John 7:37-39). This Scripture is a major clue as to the exact day the 2nd outpouring of the Holy Spirit will be; on Shemini Atzeret or the Last Great Day.

From Acts chapter 2, we learned that the 1st outpouring of the Holy Spirit was given on Pentecost. Pentecost is the spring harvest. It was a near fulfillment of what the prophet Joel proclaimed. (Joel 2:28-32). God foretold of 2 outpouring, the former rain and the latter rain, which represents the spring and fall harvests. So, if we know that the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit (about 3000 souls) occurred during Pentecost, we then can say that Tabernacles (Fall Harvest/Feast of Ingathering) is when the 2nd outpouring will happen. Thanks to Jesus teaching in the Temple and promising this gift on the Last Great Day, 22nd of Tishri, we know the exact day this incredible worldwide event will take place.

So can the year be prediced? While we cannot say, Joel prophesied it happens at the end of the age. Right after God pours out His Spirit, signs and wonders will be shown in the Heavens. By comparing Joel’s description of the Heavenly wonders to  what Jesus said in Matthew 24:29-31 and John in Revelation 6:12-17 it is clear that the outpouring happens before the Rapture and the Day of the Lord. Look for this gift from God right before the final 7 year period or early within Daniel’s 70th week.

This outpouring of the Spirit really does prove that the Holy Spirit is not removed before the end of the age but is poured upon all flesh. in the next post we will see how the General Resurrection also fulfills Shemini Atzeret . EJ
